Contrary to ignorant belief, the foreskin (also known as the 'prepuce') isn't a useless extra piece of skin hanging out around the penis. Like the majority of tissues, organs, and body parts we are born with, it has a significant purpose. When you lift the veil of ignorance and get familiar with a normal, intact penis, the way it looks will start to make sense to you, and penises that have been circumcised will look altered. Once you are aware of the functions of the foreskin, it will be very obvious that it was put there for a reason.
"Only by denying the existence of excruciating pain, perinatal encoding of the brain with violence, interruption of maternal-infant bonding, betrayal of infant trust, the risks and effects of permanently altering normal genitalia, the right of human beings to sexually intact and functional bodies, and the right to individual religious freedoms can human beings continue this practice." -Joe Quinn
1) The glans (the part of the penis that is exposed when circumcised) is supposed to be an internal organ. Think of it like the eyeball, being protected by the eyelid to keep out pathogens, debris, and to keep our eyes moist. The foreskin functions the same way for the glans.
2) At birth, the foreskin is fused to the penis, keeping is safe and clean, allowing for the penis to fully develop. The foreskin will retract on it's own as the child gets older, and retract completely around puberty. The foreskin should NEVER be forcefully retracted. I repeat NEVER forcefully retract the foreskin. "Only clean what is seen." It doesn't need to be retracted to be cleaned, which brings me to number 3.
3) The foreskin is a self cleansing organ for the penis. It produces an anti-bacterial sebum that keeps the penis clean. When urinating, the foreskin acts as a container that flushes out any foreign microbes that make contact to the penis. A circumcised penis that is exposed wouldn't have this, as the urine would not have the foreskin to pass through, and would simply shoot out the urethra. The urethra is an opening into the body. The foreskin protects the urethra and keeps out any bacteria, contaminants, and also protects against abrasions.
4) The foreskin makes up approximately 1/3 of the penile skin. When males experience an erection, the penis expands and doubles in size, sometimes more. The foreskins elasticity is the perfect amount of skin that expands with the penis and allows it to glide smoothly over the shaft and the glans. Imagine a circumcised penis trying to do this. It doesn't have the extra skin. So, when thrusting, it's just sort of....stuck., or not pliable. Ouch.
5) The foreskin is the most sensitive part of the penis, and it contains 20,000 nerve endings. These nerve ending are sensitive to textures, temperatures, and can discern motion. The sensitivity makes for a complete sexual experience, as opposed to circumcised males who may have to work hard to experience such sensations, making slow, conscious, sensual experiences less desirable. Think of the jackhammer effect. This is no fun for the male or female partner.
6) The foreskin facilitates a smooth and fluid movement between partners during intercourse because the foreskin allows the penis to slip in and out of the vagina effortlessly within its own moveable skin. The foreskin is also self lubricating, enhancing the sexual experience by the penis slipping in and out of the foreskin, and keeping the vagina lubricated. Intact males have little need for manufactured lubricants, unlike circumcised males who so often do.
There you have it. That is a short list of the important functions and purposes of the foreskin (prepuce). Question this barbaric practice and don't blindly cut your child. You can never take it back. They are born perfectly, and by not honoring their genital integrity we are teaching them one fundamental thing: That they were not born perfect. That God, nature, or who/whatever you give reverence to, is flawed. That in order for them to be a healthy, normal, acceptable human being, you had to remove a very sensitive piece on the most sacred, personal part of their body. You are teaching them that genitals are dirty, and unhealthy. These fundamental notions can be very detrimental, conscious or not. By not cutting our sons we are teaching them that they were born perfectly, that the creator got it right, and that there is nothing wrong or shameful about their genitalia. We are giving them the opportunity to experience their penis and sexual pleasures to the fullest of its capabilities. This is not a decision for anyone to make accept for the owner of the penis. Leave the penis Au Naturel ;)
